Hi-tech modern bathrooms heighten the sense of convenience and comfort while adding to their aesthetic appeal. Take a look at these seven cutting-edge technologies that range from digitally-operated commodes to faucet sensors for creating an invigorating bathroom experience.

1. Sensor faucets/ taps
Digital faucets or taps feature built-in infrared sensors that instantly turn on the water supply when you place your hands under the tap. The short-timed water supply prevents wastage as compared to standard taps. Kohler, Jaquar and others offer sleek digital faucets.

Tip: Look for automatic soap dispensers to complement the faucets. Just place your palm below the dispenser to get a coin-sized supply of your choice of soap. Dettol has a no-touch, budget-friendly one that runs on battery power.

2. Digital shower
Don’t you hate the wait for the water to reach just the right temperature when you step into the shower? Digital showers allow you to set the desired temperature so the water runs at exactly the right heat in a matter of seconds. There’s even an option to control the pressure.

An added bonus is that some ultra-luxurious versions have a music facility too – so you can sway to your favourite tunes while in the shower. Many feature LED lights, too, controlled with the electronic shower systems. Some Indian brands that make these include Kohler, Hansgrohe, Grohe, Jaquar.

3. High-tech toilets or commodes
Digitally advanced commode seats feature automated lid opening and closing (no more worries of leaving the seat up). They may have digitally insulated seats which stay warm during colder months. Most are designed to flush automatically after use, too. This one goes a step ahead and even has water jets that can wash with one of three modes. Kohler, Gramalya and Roca make high-tech toilets.

4. Smart mirror
Digital mirrors can come with voice command (this one is Google’s Alexa-enabled) or sensor technologies to make life easier. Along with reflections they display the weather, time, date, news or even play video clips. Some interactive high-end smart mirrors feature touch screen displays. You can even adjust the light levels as required for shaving or applying makeup. Griffin, Nuovotec, HelpMeBuild Technologies are brands offering smart mirrors in India.

Tip: Control all digital systems in the bathroom via apps on your phone, iPad or tablet.

5. Electronic Mirror Defoggers
Hate the annoying steamy mist that lingers on the mirrors? Get specialised mirrors with defogging technology that helps defog instantly so you can get a clear reflection.

6. Waterproof televisions
Waterproof LED televisions with a high-definition touchscreen and frameless designs are available to fit into the bathroom seamlessly. They usually feature waterproof speakers, which adds to the acoustic enjoyment. Place them across from the toilet seat, tub or shower for easier viewing access.

Tip: Get a TV with waterproof rating of at least IP 65 that resists not just splashes, but even direct inputs of water.
