Just to clarify, you have presented 3 versions. I believe the consensus is the original version with the wood grain ( linen grain) cabinetry works the best and is most updated. The only thing that is out of place are the cabinets or "shelves" on both sides of the range hood. If this is what you need to find a solution too. I would suggest only experimenting with rendering options for these two cabinets( or shelves). This cabinet ties in all the other hard surfaces. The white is not working. It just adds another element. The black is a little dated.

That looks like natural wood so i wouldn't ever paint it, I would try to match the wood color and use a more substantial wood drapery rod next to it and remove the clock above it. Light jade pieces would be good and shiny too. Something inexpensive would be all green or white/cream Haeger (maybe spelled wrong) ceramic rectangular "planters" usually about 3 inches tall, 2 or three inches deep and 6 or so wide and other shapes also like small vases are easy to find. I think they are from the 40's or 50's so they would match the built-in style. You can pick them up at thrift stores for about five dollars and they have nice shapes. I agree with the other comments that a strong theme rather than random objects are key.

I like the ceiling. I think the hanging lights are too fancy and distract from the ceiling decor. A simpler light would look better or sticking with the canned lights you have. The walls have too many big, black things on them. It's hard to tell if they are windows with shade --- in which case I'd pick something lighter, perhaps to echo the ceiling, TVs (how many do you need?) or what. I'd consider a big piece of statement art in the place of at least one. If you're on a budget, get a large, high quality photo in the right colors, you can take it yourself. Sepia and black architectural might work. I like more color and more natural light. You may have closed the shades for a better picture, so it's hard to comment on the light, plus windows are a feature of your room, not exactly a decorator's choice. I would consider how to get a few small pops of color in, pillows, flowers, candles, maybe even a runner rug along the right wall. If you are doing this as part of a portfolio, the entire ensemble would look more welcoming with a few touches like someone lives there. Something on the coffee table, for example. A few books and a candle. A tray with tea things, a vase of flowers or basket of fruit. Pick one or two things and make it composed. You see this a lot in designer Houzz photos. Hello! If you have about 7' of continuous wall space, you could centre a small desk on the wall, then flank it with Ikea Kallax storage shelves. Use their Drona tote bins to corral messy stuff, and leave other cubbies open for the backpack, books, etc. Showing below the 48" wide Josephine desk from World Market - the front drawer can also flip open to come a keyboard shelf. Also comes in other colors. Also, the smallest Kallax shelf in their series (16 1/2" wide). Another possibility, depending on how the room is configured, is to butt the desk up to the foot of the bed. This should allow about 2' of chair space in front of the desk. You then might be able to use a larger Kallax shelving unit. They come in some great colors in the larger sizes - turquoise, pink, etc.
