The kids room is small 11x11. Space & storage is a problem. Need separate study space as well as lots of storage for books, school bags, toys etc. Wardrobes along one wall, windows and ac along another.
Hello! If you have about 7' of continuous wall space, you could centre a small desk on the wall, then flank it with Ikea Kallax storage shelves. Use their Drona tote bins to corral messy stuff, and leave other cubbies open for the backpack, books, etc.
Showing below the 48" wide Josephine desk from World Market - the front drawer can also flip open to come a keyboard shelf. Also comes in other colors. Also, the smallest Kallax shelf in their series (16 1/2" wide).
Another possibility, depending on how the room is configured, is to butt the desk up to the foot of the bed. This should allow about 2' of chair space in front of the desk. You then might be able to use a larger Kallax shelving unit. They come in some great colors in the larger sizes - turquoise, pink, etc.
Thank you so much for your ideas. I do love Ikea furniture ( especially the desk you've uploaded) and we are currently using their bookshelves and study desk. However, its just not hardy enough and the shelves have already started sagging with the load of the heavy books! The bigger issue is the layout and I'm feeling totally stuck!
Well, here's a thought: can you put the desk under the window (I assume this wouldn't be a problem with the A/C unit below?), then use the large Ikea Kallax shelf unit to the right of it (where the desk is now)?
Then, on the wall where you currently have what looks like Billy bookcases, hang a series of hooks mounted on a wall shelf? Then, backpacks on the hooks, and pictures or something decorative propped on the shelf (so that you have a little breathing room and not every wall is jam-packed lol).
Or, on that wall, mount a few Ikea spice racks concerted into bookshelves, as in the pic below?
I think the Kallax units would be a lot sturdier than the Billy units. For one thing, they are separated into cubbies, so the vertical boards should distribute the weight better.
And, if that wall (with the window) is wide enough, could you use the Besta Burs desk, which is just under 6' long but only 16" deep - for a slimmer profile, and the appearance of more space?
Since the Besta Burs desk is not very deep, then there could be issues with the A/C unit being in the way? In this case, mauve the Besta Burs desk could go to the right of the window (where the existing desk is), with a long closed shelf unit mounted above for extra storage? The wall mounted unit is, I believe, 11" high.
Then, the large Kallax unit would go on the adjacent wall.
Hello, I need help with pretty/unique ideas for my child's first room. We are moving in a bigger place and she's 4 turning 5 in July. My only problem is we are moving to an apartment and they said we could paint the walls but once we decide to move again the maintenance men would have to be able to paint back over the project with one coat of white. If you know a professional who could get the job done with reasonable pricing that would be awesome! Please leave me their information and/or your suggestions for her first room design. :) Thank You
