what size and brand is the recessed lighting? I'm thinking of adding some to my galley kitchen because the light fixtures are not giving me the appropriate lighting . I replaced the old Menard fixture with a much better quality and I'm not really getting the necessary light in the kitchen. I'm having to turn on the pendant over the kitchen sink to provide additional light. Is there a certain amount of recessed lights that I need to install?
100kaway – thanks for your question. The recessed lights we added in this kitchen are 4” LED cans furnished by the Electrician, and these were placed based on several variables specific to this project. Spacing for recessed lighting is impacted by a number of factors, including the height of your ceiling, distance to the surface being illuminated, lumens per square foot, etc... I have found that a good rule of thumb, is to use the strongest wattage bulb you can (on a dimmer switch) and space the lights about half the distance of the ceiling height – i.e. 8’ ceiling would put cans 3.5’ to 4’ apart, and about 30” away from the walls for ‘general’ lighting. Hope this helps! – Designer, Shylo
