Exterior Windows Design Dilemma

Symmetrical or asymmetrical windows?

We need to make a choice between symmetrical and asymmetrical windows. We're trying to respect the style of the house while updating a bit its transitional style. This is a rough sketch of course.
As a bonus, any opinion on the style and color of the front and garage doors? Everything is white currently (I'm trying to break the pink brick/white metal scheme).

I like the asymmetrical windows. I don’t see a difference in the moldings that you mention.

Symmetrical please! I would paint the entire bottom including the garage door something like Urbane Bronze.

I decorate my walls with pieces of art (prints, paintings) that I like and I think are pretty. For me that includes botanical art (flowers), vintage china, some lovely landscapes painted by a relative, prints I've picked up here and there, a few pictures / items that reflect my faith, pictures of my kids and so on. Your pictures / artwork should reflect you. If the art has color in it, that would be great to add some to your room.

Hi Jiya, For sure this has gone over the top.. not going into that.. To tone it down we can remove the terracotta red color on the walls . It can be replaced with white color on the brick wall. Window frame color if changed to lighter shades would be great as well. The line where the two floors meet may have to be covered with a uni tone area rug. The sqaure shaped dining bench gives the room a sidey restaurant like feel? Can we not change it . For the curtains and Sofa furnishings , please do not take one with any patterns on it.. uni colored ones with an accent piece would be better.. Thanks, Nitin CORNERSTONE DESIGNS Bangalore.

Hi Gaurav, Here are a few suggestions - 1] Put up a nice collection of photographs over the chest of drawers. Put up planters on either its side. 2] You may go for a wallpaper behind the leather sofa or else opt for a grey coloured wall. Grey would highlight your sofa and give it a background. Accentuate it with a mirror or a painting. 3] Cover the window AC with an american pleat curtain that you can draw apart when you need to use the AC and which otherwise covers the entire window. 4] What are those green cushions in the corner? If they are floor cushions, highlight them with cushions. 5] A major requirement of your living room is a set of coffee table and matching end tables. This would visually connect the furniture together and make your space more utilitarian. 6] Choose a colour them and stick to it. Opt for curtains, rugs/carpets, cushions and wallpaper in tune with it. Since you have a striking blue accent chair you may choose to repeat the colour sparingly over the entire room to achieve a cohesive look. 7] Go for curios, collectibles like vases, votive, lanterns, figurines etc. to add a personal touch. The mouldings I refer to are the horizontal muntins in two of the pictures. I am not sure of the appropriate terminology as I am not a native English speaker.

Some different options to consider

I really don't like the blue

I'm wondering if the windows should be a deeper color

I think you could select a more formal entry door.

Get rid of the white on the iron railings.

The side of the house is white aluminium, and painting all the siding and trimmings was like $15k, so out of budget, why is why we sticked to white windows and tried to oomph everything with grey blue doors.

On that house the windows need to be symmetrical.

The asymmetrical examples make the house look cross-eyed.

Is this in the Toronto area?

Ok so keep the windows white but hardware, lights and railings black or dark gray. Select a different accent color than blue.

Asymmetrical in this case makes almost as much sense and leaving the windows open in January in Montreal. Just my opinion. No horizontal muntins. Garage door should blend in and not be a focal point. The front door a blue or a red would look nice.
