Busy floor design tips ..help

I was redoing my living room and thought of doing a cute little diamond tile for the dining area, which was going to be the graphic element and herringbone wood floors for the living area.

Somehow (I wont go into details!) I got stuck with a very graphic pattern on the wooden floor as well. I love the floors separately but together (with the dining bench) it looks a bit much.

Luckily I didn't order any furniture ahead of time, except for the dining .

Now I am looking for some decor tips to make the busy floors work for the room.

Hi Jiya,

For sure this has gone over the top.. not going into that..

To tone it down we can remove the terracotta red color on the walls . It can be replaced with white color on the brick wall.

Window frame color if changed to lighter shades would be great as well.

The line where the two floors meet may have to be covered with a uni tone area rug.

The sqaure shaped dining bench gives the room a sidey restaurant like feel? Can we not change it .

For the curtains and Sofa furnishings , please do not take one with any patterns on it.. uni colored ones with an accent piece would be better..

nben1, Hi, I would open a 42" to 45" opening on both ends of the wall between living and study. That would leave room for a TV with components in a unit below. A desk would be nice in the back left corner of the study, with art or photo above, a chair in the back right corner and a chaise or small sofa on the wall behind the tv. That would make everything look roomier and make the study more inviting. In the living an L shaped seating would be nice floating with a small console behind. Good luck!

I'd suggest you have a look through the photos section on Houzz - or there's quite a few good articles on how to decorate :) maybe both you & your wife could save pictures to an ideabook with a few words on what it is you like about each one, and it'll give you more of an idea of what type of things you like? I think colour-wise, turquoise and peach can go together really well - maybe a warm cream colour on the walls & pops of turquoise and peach in the form of throw cushions etc.? Again, just searching on Houzz can give you some great ideas - just literally searching 'turquoise and peach' brings up quite a lot of pictures :) to get you started I've just picked out a few which I personally think work well :)

Hi Ma'am/Sir,

I would highly suggest you to change the entire flooring into a basic one if your budget allows you to do so. It is because of the flooring that your concept is not related to each other which is very important to wing it because without details, there are no design symmetry. I guess you should chalk out some options on a notebook first. If you are a pro' then you should get your moodboard shortlisted. Good luck!
