Window Dressing

I moved into a new house 2 years ago,I had Roman blinds made for my Kit/din/living room which I now think was a mistake as we get direct sunlight all day long on some of the Windows.I'm thinking what would off white Venetian
Blinds look like if I hung them behind the Roman blinds have them down in the bright sunlight and pulled up when not so bright,can you advise.

Your room is beautiful! I love the roman shades...do they come all the way down? If so, you could just add light blocking material to the back of them. If not, a roller shade behind the roman shade would work too (and might be cheaper)...easy to get up and down...light blocking. They are customizable in many colors so you could find a complementing shade. Here's a link to a place to get some ideas and I have seen these on Wayfair as well (if you can find the right sizes). Just install sun shades/ roller blinds behind the Roman blind it works well and you can see outside during the day with sun shades down. I have them in the whole house. But it will cut out a bit of light coming in , since it’s to sunny it probably won’t matter.

In the layout below, I took the liberty to move to vanity and toilet so you don't enter right into the toilet. I am not sure if you have room for that since I can't see the measurements of the width of your bathroom. This is something you can discuss with your architect. The main idea of the layout below is to block the original entrance of the closet so you can have a bedroom door. The entrance to the closet/bathroom can be where your dresser is and move your dresser closer to the window. You would have a choice of a door that swings inward, outward or a pocket door. Personally, I would go with a pocket door so the bathroom would feel more spacious.

Hi - Outlined below is the floor plan of my master bedroom. I need help with deciding which would be the best place for placing the wardrobe. Looking forward to feedback. I am trying to decide based on which option will allow for 1. Most efficient storage per sq ft. 2. Placing a dressing table either by the bed or bathroom (bathroom is the smaller door in the picture). 3. Placing a study desk. Ideally I would like to place it along natural light. In this case, the corner window space. Alternatively, as in case of option 1, I can place a study desk / dressing table in the corner by the door, along the 3 ft 7" wall. 4. making the room feel less cluttered. Option1 : Create an L-shaped wardrobe as seen in the picture below. Option 2: Create 2 separate wardrobes on either side of the door - i.e along the 5 ft 7" wall and another across the bedroom door, along the 3 ft 7" as shown below. The layout appears to be different because it has been visualized from a different direction. But the room dimensions and the bed and tv locations remain the same.

Bhaskar, I would give it a pass. :) You have a bath of a size bigger than most of the baths in modern flats. Its approx 30% of your room size. Why do you want to increase it further. Please specify. Options that you may consider - reduce the wardrobe area a bit and compensate the bath. Increase the bath and use the TV or the Sofa wall for additional wardrobes. At one of the clients places we had merged two adjoining baths to make a king size bath. Take your pick. Thanks, Nitin Cornerstone Designs, Bangalore.

PS there are different colour sun shades but white one lets in more light and is nice to look at.

Your Roman Blinds are recessed fitted. Therefore, you would not have enough room to fit another roller blind behind them ( underneath the roman blind fittings ), unless you dropped the level of the roller blind. This would probably leave a gap visible from the outside of your house, which may not look very nice.

Alternatively:- You could put up sheer roller blinds and change the roman blinds for a non-recessed fitting, leaving you amble room behind them.

Or, put up voile roller blinds and have curtains.

Or, maybe just window film.

There is a slimline venetian blind, which if I recall has a 15mm vane rather tha the standard 25mm. This might fit behind your roller blind, but i would question whether they would look good in your setting; maybe just using a sheer curtain behind is an option to consider as this would reduce the glare of the sun.
