Let me first of all congratulate our dynamic organizing team of IIID, Jaipur chapter and also friends of Lukhnow Chapter for enthusiastically holding a highly beneficial interactive session on 21st September, 2013 Symposium is historical in many ways because never did we attempt to invite creative artists from various fields to sit on single platform and openly discuss issues which are relevant for all the creative professionals, especially the issues which had never been seriously resolved for an ideological consensus on regional tradition vise a vise modernity. It is fact that all arts –Music, Painting, architecture and poetry do have some common creative processes and aesthetic concerns but they are also distinct and uncommon in many ways because of their inherent nature and historical evolutions. We all the creators from various fields of arts do not respond to many common issues also in similar identical ways which would surely generate some problems of understanding in such discussions but they would all disappear once and for all if the dialogue remains perpetual and continued. Since it has happened for the first time some kind of dissatisfaction among a few participants should be taken as natural. The encounter between tradition and modernity and many other contemporary issues related to classical music and Dance are different from what we have been facing in visual arts and Architecture. With a lot of perpetual innovative experiments being in practice in classical music and dance there is still continuity of the tradition that restores its identity whereas in visual art and Architecture the creativity is extremely liberalized and also globalised. It is amidst all such developments the relevance of reflecting regional traditions or local vocabulary (popular words, idioms and expressions) are being raised and these serious concerns are justified particularly for a country like India which is proud of its splendid cultural heritage,...See MoreKitchen backsplash - which tiles for a white Cottage/Farmhouse kitchen
Comments (8)Hi Rasa, Nice to hear from you and I’m glad I was able to give you some inspiration for your kitchen tiles. I’ve included another image for you to look at that shows more of a farm house style kitchen with the coloured tiles. If you worried the coloured tiles might look too contemporary for your space, I would advise going for quite soft, muted colour tones to give you the same effect but in a more rustic style. You can see in the attached image how they have used a soft sheen, textured tile in neutral tones, with a subtle hint of colour to be in-keeping with that farmhouse feel. For your tile colours, you could pick up the off white tone of your cabinets with the grey in the granite, and a very soft hint of green or blue to add a little colour to achieve the same look for your kitchen. I have also added some paint swatches below you could use as reference for tile colours to help you visualise the combination. Off white: Greys: Blue or Green: Hopefully this answers your questions for you and I’d love to see some pictures when your project is finished. Good luck with the decorating. Comments (2)Thank you Marie. I'm herewith attaching couple of pics that were taken when the house was newly constructed. I wish I could take latest ones but it is a total mess now. But you'll get a fairly better idea with an empty house. One picture, taken in long-shot, shows the lateral part of the kitchen hidden behind the shelf and Arch (I brought down this Arch now). The second one shows the kitchen door showing only part of the kitchen interior. I've annotated the pictures wherever necessary. Hope they're not distracting. As you can clearly see, this is an old-styled construction even though this house was constructed barely 6 years ago! In an attempt to make the home look contemporary, my current project involves either 1 . Bringing down the concrete shelves completely and replace them with wooden cabinets/wardrobes. I've already brought down few concrete shelves in other rooms. OR 2. Alternatively, overlaying few of existing shelves with wooden doors to cover them up. Either way, the appearance is more or less the same once the furnishing is completed. At this juncture, this decision of 'Open Versus Closed kitchen' is holding me back from proceeding to the next phase of remodeling - Dropped Ceilings....See MoreKitchen & Wardrobe
