Kitchen Backsplash Advice

I'm looking for suggestions on what type of backsplash to use with our super white quartzite countertops in our white kitchen. My original plan was to use marble 3x6 subway tiles, but the more we looked at the samples, the more we felt it may compete too much with our counters (a tile designer told us this as well). Now we were thinking of doing a beveled white subway tile in a matte finish, but I wanted to see if anyone has any different suggestions before we make a decision. I'm adding pictures of our counters as well as both of the samples we had at home. Thanks in advance!

Comments (11)A good tile installer that knows what he is doing, can easily remove that single piece of tile.... carefully replace it with another one. Do you have another extra pieces of the same tile? Do you know what brand and color the existing grout is? That will be more of the issue trying to get the grout match to match up or the finding the same tile (in the same dye lot) if you need to buy another tile. Did the heat cause the break or did a pan bang into the glass? Consider installing a heat resistant Lumicor or 3 Form panel behind the stove. 5 years agoHi! I used Super White Dolomite and was between white beveled subway or this marble mosaic. I chose the subway because of my exposed brick. If you choose the marble style route I'd suggest a mosaic. A word of advice for the marble subway, depending on the skill level of the tile setter, you might want to open the boxes and line them up to match the vein direction yourself.

5 years agoAlso consider the grout color. I'm personally not a fan of subway with darker grout. I opted for white. Grout could make or break the look for sure. I searched high and low....Laticrete Silver Shadow is hands down the best blended in look for marble tile in any format IMHO

5 years agoI would worry about it becoming too washed out with white back splash. And the marble tile is not right. My neighbor did a beautiful high end white kitchen and used beveled white subway... and it left her asking what to do with the space behind her range. It was too much white.

5 years agoDefinitely the white subway tile over the marble. I would suggest considering a mosaic, a band, or considering a complimentary color subway tile or glass tile to bring some color to the space. If you aren't comfortabe with that, you could also just incorporate your color once you add some decor to the kitchen. Either way, the kitchen looks beautiful, you are doing a great job with your selections!
