Need your advice please before I made my decision !

I'm going to do renovations in my house.

An idea came to me regarding baseboard material.

If I'm going to install the baseboard over a marble or porcelain floor, is it efficient for the baseboard to be made from plaster/gypsum instead of wood? what is the advantages, disadvantages?

The advantages are it costs less than wood. The disadvantage is it chips very easily.

Hate this stuff - our home is only months old with this type of trim (not our choice) it looks dirty already, chipped etc. Would definitely go with real wood. Costly yes, but in the end well worth it.

Hello Divya, Its unfortunate that you have to go through all this. Is your query towards the legal aspect or on how to complete the remaining work. For the second one : You may have to hire a renowned/ registered agency for the balance work. Yes, they are usually costlier but they have a reputation and they have earned it for a reason. This is the changes i made according to ur suggestions. Removed balcony and added a bow window for drawing room. One bedroom on the right gets a attached balcony. Work area or utility area can be extended upto 60 cm to the right which will be open to air and metal grill works may b done. I also extended some space near staircase to act as shoerack. Also for the other bedroom and kitchen , space extended outward for builtin cupboard . I cannot push back the toilet near the kitchen because of the space constrains. My only issue that fiddles my mind is that , is there a problem if kitchen door is close to toilet door?? If so i can attach the toilet to the bedroom nearby. Only issue will be that if incase any guest need to use the toilet, then they have to go through the bedroom. Thanks in advance and grateful for all your inputs.

Hi! The decision can depend on the following: 1. Budget - If you can spare more and invest in one, I'd say go for the fully-integrated free standing hob+microwave oven. 2. Servicing - Since purchasing a free standing unit is not quite common unless you're getting the entire modular kitchen done, servicing the same can be an issue. 3. Space constraint - A kitchen hob definitely requires only your counter space rather than losing out on the whole vertical storage. I second that , Gypsum is usually used as a close to the ceiling moulding/trim not where heavy traffic and cords can damage it .

You can use an "Abuse Board" type of gypsum to do lower sections if you really want to use a gypsum product. The abuse board is a denser gypsum product that doesn't dent or damage as easily. You could also use a 1/2" MDF product instead of drywall on the bottom and then use a drywall compound to tie the gypsum into the MDF. This will give you a similar look. In my experience, the wood will out last any gypsum product used as or in place of a wood baseboard. As said earlier, the gypsum product will cost less but be a bigger headache as it degrades / chips or dents. The wood product will be slightly more, however it will out last anything else, and is much easier to maintain.
