"need to design space under the staircase"
Comments (52)A houzz contributor, not too long ago, had made a wine rack out of 4'x4' wooden pallets, that are used in the US to move a load of goods with a fork-lift truck. Perhaps they have them in your country. He cut them in half so they were only two feet deep and stacked them up to high counter height. The wood would be a nice contrast with your concrete, might add a little warmth to the space. cascio.offsite@gmail.com...See MoreRenovating a tiny( 4'2"x7'8") outdated bathroom.
Comments (53)I am so happy to see you here! I will have to go back and see if i can retrieve my posts... thought I would make them into a little book for my daughter, with photos. Quick run-down on the bathroom (not travels, no time) - The kitchen has a rather elegant sliding door with beveled glass panels. Painted white, since this was the original colour. GD's new bathroom has the doors I had picked earlier; i thought of polishing them but decided sprayed automobile paint (on a resin primer) would wear better. Especially since it is such a small bathroom, and she is so splashy. I have this finish in my kitchen and it has lasted 15 years now. A tad chipped here and there, but only needs a wipe down once a week. Same finish for the balcony doors, also split like the bathroom. We have a new wardrobe, a study table with built-in shelves, and a small chest of drawers for her odds and ends. I want to re-tile the tiny balcony, more as a little statement. Currently we are looking at Portuguese tiles, though I did think a mosaic with a funky cat might be nice. Let me see the costing. The room will be painted a neutral adobe, with bright white woodwork and an off-white ceiling. This means she can go wild with cushions and covers. Other changes in the flat; We have changed the glass in the master bedroom and living room from small cramped panes to a single pane for each section with a 1" bevel all round. Doubles the cost of the glass, but looks so elegant! The air-conditioning is being re-located. The compressors were all mounted in the bedroom and living room balconies, which looked terrible and meant the balconies (very narrow, only 30" deep) couldn't be used for anything. Not even plants. So they are being moved so that the compressors can be mounted at the rear of the building. two down, one to go. Now we can put in some nice plants, fishtail palms etc. The kitchen counter on one side came out intact and will be reused elsewhere. I am planning overhead storage, cupboards, and a draining cupboard for plates and glasses. Right now there is no dish washer, though a place is earmarked, but for now I will put in a cupboard with steel racks for cups, glasses and plates, all hidden behind pressed glass doors. This is all in the planning stage.... Pictures in a little while, they are mostly on my ipad and don't transfer well to the mac. They come without numbers... so I have to rename the or something. Somebody tell me how to do this!...See MoreNeed help with Granite and backsplash selection
Comments (12)actually, to brighten up this dark and small feeling space, i'd look for a creamy base colored stone like khasmir gold or ivory gold, being sure to add an overhang on the island (if you like movement in the stone check out juprana granite) then exchange the pot rack over the island with either a pair of great pendants or a statement chandelier. from my own kitchen remodel experience i'll share you with you this: you'll get a much better price from a granite company then you will from a large home store ;) and be sure to take a cabinet door with you to shop. you can continue the granite onto the wall as a backsplash...they can cut the stone and make it go higher up the wall than the standard 3 inches which can be a great look. but if you really want tile, go for something simple that won't compete with the granite....like a cream colored subway tile. you can apply thim in a running brick pattern or a more modern stacked geometric pattern or even a herringbone. to control staining from food prep, don't use a white grout, use a slightly darker grout color that is inspired from the stone countertop. just remember that using a pattern on the countertop and another pattern on the backsplash can easily become overwhelming and then neither element stands out as the focal point. if you are spending a lot on a granite countertop, do everything you can to make it stand out as the best feature....See MoreExposed brickwark within the open kitchen, living and staircase areas.
Comments (5)Hi Puspa, Here are some ways in which you may convert an existing wall into a brick wall - 1] If you are alright with replacing the existing wall entirely, then terracotta bricks are your answer. A terracotta brick wall gives a rustic buy neat finish as compared to the conventional brick masonry. However, this would require major civil work. 2] Another way is to strip the existing wall of its plaster and expose the underlying masonry. You can protect this masonry with a lacquer coating (your painter will help you with that). However, this again required some amount of civil work. 3] If you want to work with the existing wall without breaking it, opt for cladding materials. You may go for brick like cladding materials like terracotta wall cladding. These come in a variety of colours and are easy to apply and maintain. They come for both interior and exterior applications. 4] Punning is another way of achieving the desired look on a wall. The painter or false ceiling guy can help you with this task. Basically he will pun the wall in pop and engrave grout lines so as to give it a brick wall look. 5] Lastly, you may go for brickwork looking wall paper or a 3d panel. While a wallpaper would look flat and unconvincing, a 3d panel would do the trick. You can either paint on the 3d panel or leave it as is. As far as procuring items locally is concerned, I am sure a local vendor or contractor will guide you through. Regards, RnD Atelier Nagpur...See Moresaywhatyousay
