Lighting advice - zoning the space

Hi,

We are about to start build on a kitchen extension to create a kitchen/diner/lounge. My dilemma is how via lighting we zone each of the areas. For dining areas the usual advice is 1 or three pendants but the dining table is likely to move from time to time. Any advice on how to light and zone these spaces much appreciated.

I tend to like a pendant over the dining table too, maybe a light like the flos string would allow you the flexibility to install a light which could be moved.

I would be inclined to use a mix of lighting provision, from pendants where you plan to locate the dining table plus over the island to wall uplighters, spots in 2-3 clusters and unit lighting. Ensure switches at at each door entry point and lights can be controlled individually in their respective zones.

I would always recommend if the budget allows consulting with a lighting designer to get the most out of the space; I would highly recommend Sam Coles who you can find on Houzz.

A houzz contributor, not too long ago, had made a wine rack out of 4'x4' wooden pallets, that are used in the US to move a load of goods with a fork-lift truck. Perhaps they have them in your country. He cut them in half so they were only two feet deep and stacked them up to high counter height. Please help me remodel the existing house plan. The details are - 1. Bedroom 1 aka Master bedroom (existing) 2. Bedroom 2 3. Bedroom 3 (this room has a balcony) 4. give me some time I have an idea to do for these pillars after application of the film... I will surely post it.... What I plan to do is have three long glass vases with translucent pebbles in it which will look good even when the light is off ... Also the vases will contain nice decorative small leaves metallic flowers ...i am not able to find these tall vases at least 35 cm tall (total height of one box is 74 cm) searching for them... any inputs ?

Although not directly related to light fittings, have you considered other aspects to the renovation such as lighting control, music systems?
