Hire the trendiest kitchen designer money can buy, and tell them you want the latest style in everything.

The pencil tile is at or past its peak popularity in my area.

If you want to see the latest things in kitchen style, talk to the most fashionable designer in town. In the meantime, pick up a couple new Architectural Digests from the library and some from five and ten years ago. That'll show you what are newer and older trends, by comparison.

I think that the choices you've made work well together.

However, I am sure that you are probably wanting to enjoy the feeling of a new and trendy kitchen now. It looks like you have a traditional home? And based on the material that you are choosing, I would say that you are leaning towards a newer version of traditional. Definitely the materials that you have chosen will give you a more updated version of traditional, and you have done a great job of choosing coordinated materials.

However; if you are wanted to get ahead of the curve, maybe a few things to consider.

The granite: (looks like Giallo)This is a very common granite. It started being requested in mass about 10 yrs ago when it became the trend. Now, it is what in the construction world is used as a 'builder basic." That doesn't mean it isn't a perfectly lovely granite, I had it myself in my last home. I just want to make you aware that a lot of people are beginning to request upgrades from this granite. I tell you this because you stated specifically that you didn't want to be at the end of a trend. I believe that this granite is fast approaching that category. A good choice for a timeless granite is a basic black variety. Although it can be considered a "basic builder" material as well, it will most likely continue to hold its timeless nature for a very long time. In fact, black granite will probably still be around and popular even when the next trend fizzles out. Personally, I would recommend the black granite all around and a higher end accent granite on the island, in similar colors to your choice, to pull in the golds that you are leaning towards.

The mini glass tiles that you have chosen are still a trendy choice, and even if they go out of style in the near future, backsplash is a relatively easy thing to change. So, I think you are safe with that choice. But I am a bit confused on exactly what your design for the backsplash is going to be. Are you planning to use all glass with a strip of one of the other tiles or vice versa?

Something like this for the accent granite on the island. With the exception of layout, this is how I picture your kitchen remodel could look with two different granites and a backsplash similar to your choice.

Color scheme with stainless steel appliances and a full glass subway tile backsplash. By the way, if you like the look with the wood floors, you can always get tile that looks like wood. Which is what I would recommend.
