I noticed there is no hood. How is it ventilated?

Well.... caught out. We are one of those naughty people who take a risk assessment of the area. On this occasion there are huge amounts of ventilation, the main house door, an open chiimney, four french doors and a bay window. It was an awkward spot to fit in a hood and so there is none... but there have not been any problems - on this project....

However, always, always assess the specific room you're going to be working in. This would not work as well in a small enclosed kitchen....

You do realize that there is stoves that have a vent built in ? That would have been a better and safer solution .

I agree with divadeva. More lights. If you can add pot lights do it. If they're already there add task lighting and up the wattage on the bulbs on the pot lights (replace with LED and you can make them brighter because the wattage on LED is lower for brighter light). If you have all of that add decorative lighting. If ventilation is an issue find a way to move the air around or add air filtration. Maybe the HVAC is deficient. Maybe you can add a HEPA filter instead of the standard one that comes with the unit. Call an HVAC specialist to see if there is a way to boost air flow in the room.

A good tile installer that knows what he is doing, can easily remove that single piece of tile.... carefully replace it with another one. Do you have another extra pieces of the same tile? Do you know what brand and color the existing grout is? That will be more of the issue trying to get the grout match to match up or the finding the same tile (in the same dye lot) if you need to buy another tile. Did the heat cause the break or did a pan bang into the glass? Consider installing a heat resistant Lumicor or 3 Form panel behind the stove. Warlike Tiger, Good Morning. Whats your dilemma. Is it the budget, design plan or availability of a professional to do it? Either of that would require a site study, without that it is not possible to estimate the plans or costs or even a realistic design plan. If you are keen , you can search for professionals in this forum and contact them or leave your number for interested architects to call you. However, this idea of building the second story and then breaking the lower floor walls is not feasible. It is a hilly area and you should be all the more cautious with the foundation. Difficult room layout. Is there a reason why you didn't put sink under window and range on wall with shelves? Wondering if wall with shelves is exterior wall that you could do vented hood.
