One L has an entrance door across from a window & opening to a balcony balcony and 3 bedroom doors staggered on both sides and the other L is connected to an open kitchen. The window-balcony area sounds beautiful and that is the focal point for that part of the hallway. These hall floors and walls are going to receive a lot of use and abuse from those going to & from bedrooms and kitchen. The flooring should be of good quality so it will stand up to the heavy traffic. Carpeting, hard wood, slate or tile: it's your choice but again quality is key. Carpeting in the hall helps decrease noise & is soft underfoot and I would choose carpeting. I like a plain color, with a pattern cut pile so it does not show wear and tear. I've had good luck with Stainmaster. I would train myself and family members to remove shoes & wear slippers in the house. This will help keep carpet clean. http://stainmaster.com/page/our-carpets/styles/pattern-cut-pile The walls will receive hard use, too, so they might be painted in a quality washable paint (eggshell?). Long halls can look a little tunnel-like: place a wall-art at the end of any long hall. The wall art at the end of the hall will seem to shorten the tunnel-effect and will make the hall more interesting. Choose a rather large piece of art that is bright and cheery. Here is a photo You could also buy a wall decal for the end of the hall: you place the decal on the wall and it also comes off with no residue. This decal is large bright and fun, but this company (& other decal companies) have many to choose from http://dalidecals.com/Framed-Wild-Flowers-Printed-Wall-Decals-Stickers-Graphics.html It seems people will be passing the bedrooms on the way to the kitchen quite often. If you're having guests, think of keeping the bedroom doors closed, in case the bedrooms are a mess. ;-)...See MoreNeed Echo Issue Solution for a Big Living Room
Comments (24)Upholstery and egg crate type foams will not be rigid, and may not be flame retardant. EPS and XPS construction insulation foam are lighter weight, more rigid, and could be covered with batting and fabric. They come in 4'x8' sheets, but can be cut with a utility knife into smaller sizes. They are available from a big box home improvement store like HD or Lowes. Not sure if they are flame retardant. Depending on how large a piece you are mounting, I would think they may be light enough in weight that they could be mounted to the wall with 3M removeable hangers of some sort....See MoreBedroom flooring dilemma, Hardwood in main areas, Large bathroom files
Comments (9)Hello April, It's an old wood floor and each slab of wood accepts the stains differently so getting exact match is very difficult. Sanding, staining and repolishing the existing flooring to match the new floor is a likely solution to your dilemma. Its a messy and time taking procedure though. Easier way out would be to check with original vendor if he still sells the same variety. Or request them to visit with some other matching samples. Comments (14)Ashish That is a nice idea. However if you are going with light walls, I would say go darker with your furniture colour. If you use white or off white wall colour, go with a darker grey sofa. Though not very dark but at least 2-3 tones darker than your walls. Go with khadi texture on sofa covers. It looks very nice and is quite trendy. https://www.houzz.in/photos/vikram-phvw-vp~280 Something like this is a good option (regarding colour and texture) Mounting the tv on the wall is also a good option. What i will ask you to change is your coffee table. Replace it with with a glass or a wooden nesting table. Go for a set of 2 round ones with walnut polish (if it is wood) .Keep a small dari rug under it. use you wall paper on the wall on which you are mounting your tv or on the wall directly adjacent to it. separate your dinning and living areas....See MoreNancy Travisinteriors
