OK... but the wire wont be lower as it is fixed now. The wire in the pics below is the wall facing each other. They were leveled on equal height but the beam on one wall makes it seem a little above. But i think you guys are absolutely right that up and down lights wont look good there. I think you are right about down lights lessismoore. Would it look good if i go with two different lights on opposite walls??? it would look odd right.

Help this room is driving me crazy, it has no style, no wow, nothing , we live in a older style A frame home on the water , it's beautiful but home is lacking style, I'm sure u will agree, between the kitchen and the living room it a night mare, every time I want to try something, it's a old home and money always seems to have to go to something more important

Hi guys. i need some advice or ideas for my kitchen. the problem with my kitchen is its small in size which is due to beam and utility area provided within it. The beam comes under the slab.It doesn't hv much counter space. i am unable to figure out how i shud use the space. Please help me out. I am thinking of keeping the washing machine out so that i am having some space from dat area or keeping the fridge there. please suggest me.

Place the cabinet against a different wall and not beneath that beam? There's no need for a false ceiling, instead you could do a simple cornice to soften and enliven the hard line where walls meet ceiling. You could apply the same cornice to the short, hard line where the lower side of the beam meets either wall. Keep it simple. You could even apply cornice ONLY to where the lower edge of the beam meets the walls. It softens the heavy horizontal impression, allowing it to pretend to be a very slight arch. If you're going to repaint, consider using slightly different shades for wall and ceiling. An alternate to the cornice is a shallow horizontal ledge to hold LED cove uplighting along all the walls, at the same height as the lower edge of the beam. If you do this in wood, clad the lower surface of the beam to make a feature of it and to match the cove lighting ledges. Keep the design simple. If you do none of these things, explore Houzz for pleasing and simple lighting solutions to brighten up the room. Just a few ideas...
