The chance to build a lakeside weekend home in rural NC provided this Chapel Hill family with an opportunity to ditch convention and think outside the box. For instance, we traded the traditional boat dock with what's become known as the "party dock"… a floating lounge of sorts, complete with wet bar, TV, swimmer's platform, and plenty of spots for watching the water fun. Inside, we turned one bedroom into a gym with climbing wall - and dropped the idea of a dining room, in favor of a deep upholstered niche and shuffleboard table. Outdoor drapery helped blur the lines between indoor spaces and exterior porches filled with upholstery, swings, and places for lazy napping. And after the sun goes down....smores, anyone? This tiny bedroom holds nothing more than an upholstered bed and 2 side tables, but reflections, metallic details, and the monochromatic scheme make it look larger. Custom closet doors were designed to look like shoji screens and painted to match the walls. A subtly glimmering textured wallpaper is the backdrop for the nail-head trimmed headboard. Side tables and lamps shimmer in antique silver leaf. Even the bed pillow is made of a metallic linen!

A master bedroom fit for a bed and breakfast! This client wanted to feel at home, yet on vacation at all times in their space. We combined the calming colors of grey blue and green with cream and white to achieve a soft, subtle appearance. Through unique textures such as grasscloth and velvet, we brought different feels throughout the space. A separate sitting area with custom built in cabinetry and glass light fixture provides a space for the client to "live" without disturbing their bed area.

Custom was key in each area of this Master Suite and includes the entire bed with a built in headboard, custom bedding and drapery, armoire, both closets from top to bottom, and the entire bathroom. A cool palette of softly painted lilac adorns the bedroom walls all trimmed with a clean ivory, accompanied by muted blue-grays, and accented with touches of yellow. The sophisticate atmosphere given by the soft colours is emphasised by the wallpaper silver theme. The painted white wood floor gives a contemporary fresh touch.

The bold, black and white wallpaper gives a distinctive flair to this guest bedroom. The headboard was oversized to add drama to the room, and the zebra rug was a nod to the homeowner's beloved brother, who loved animals.
