The dining room is the epicenter of the Adamik-Churney residence, as this is where most of their entertaining occurs. While open to the other public areas of the apartment, it is at the dining room table that guests spend most of their time. "A comfortable dining chair is important, " declares Adamik. With their wide, upholstered cushions and ample back support, the vintage 1940's French chairs invite guests to linger.
Although the couple had some large pieces of art, the volume of the loft space seemed to dominate. By grouping smaller pieces together, the art gained a collective presence.
Behind the dining table, a Marcel Duchamp lithograph balances out the arrangement due to its double-framed presentation. The walnut inlayed frame was originally from a mirror that Adamik and Churney had hanging in their previous home. It had survived a fall that shattered the original antique silvered glass, and rather than trying to duplicate the effect, the couple opted to give the frame a new purpose.

I started by redesigning their fireplace with a stacked stone surround, travertine herringbone hearth and I had my handyman make me a rustic wood mantel. Above, we mounted the TV, but it was quite unsightly, so we hung a mirrored cabinet over it to hide it. Next up were the rustic wood clad walls. I wanted to bring some warmth and texture to the space by adding a wood element. I had the same handyman install this labor of love. A new chandelier replaced the old ceiling fan, new custom drapes were installed, the chest of drawers was repainted and all furnishings and decor are new with the exception of the coffee table and a side table. The result is another simple, rustic and cozy space to relax with family and friends.

MaRae Simone Interiors, LLC
Can MaRae Simone do a bright and colorful room? Absolutely, if that’s what her client wants. This room is bright, airy, light and happy. This colorful artwork was contracted from Phoenix Art Group but this photo could not do it justice. In person, this art positively glistens with a sheen shimmer all over. Artwork is a great way to bring color into any home. “If you’re not comfortable painting the walls,” MaRae says, “artwork can do it for you.”

Bayberry Cottage
A neutral background is a great place to start when you're after high impact color. This dining room is part of an addition to the original cottage, but every care was taken to make it work seamlessly with the rest of the home. The planked wood walls were left unevenly spaced both for aesthetics and to keep the wood from buckling during our humid summer months.
