dining room concept

Brett Valenstein created this dining room concept for a young New York City couple who recently inherited some Asian antiques and were not sure how to incorporate them into their mostly modern apartment. Like many NYC apartments, the dining room was centrally located on the floor plan and therefore had no windows. We wanted guests to feel like they were entering a courtyard, so we designed a dry-stacked stone entry archway flanked by antique chinese fretwork. We then clad the walls with antiqued mirrors and added more chinese fretwork on top to reflect light and create a sense of openness.
