Prior to the renovation, this room consisted of wall to wall knotty pine wood paneling circa 1960. For a more period correct look, the paneling was removed and replaced with gypsum board. In the process of removing the paneling, an original brick chimney was uncovered and left exposed, becoming the new focal point in the bedroom. The original heartwood pine floors were also exposed, sanded, stained and sealed with a tung oil finish, giving it a mat sheen.

This Master Bedroom was given a total make-over. The old carpet was taken out and the original floors sanded and stained to a beautiful warm tone. New lighting and crown was added as well as a small chandelier hanging in the corner. The client wanted somewhere relaxing to retreat, i used floral draperies with a contrast band on the leading edge. The drapes are interlined and have a blackout lining, the sheers diffuse the West setting sun. The wool rug is soft in tones as well as underfoot. The bed is a mixture of colors used in the room.

Welcome to the beach house! We are pleased to share the photos from this OBX, NC beach house we decorated for one of our existing local clients. We were happy to travel to NC to assist in setting up their vacation home. Setting the tone in the entryway we selected furnishings with a coastal vibe. This console is 80 inches in length and is accented with beachy accessories and artwork. This home has a fantastic open concept living area that is perfect for large family gatherings. We furnished a dining space for ten, a family room with a large sectional that will provide seating for a crowd, and added game table with chairs for overflow. The dining table offers seating for 10 and includes 6 chairs and a bench seat that will comfortably sit 4. We selected a striped area rug in vibrant shades of blues and greens to give the space a coastal vibe. In the mudroom, shiplap walls, bench seating, cubbies and towel hooks are both pretty and hugely functional! A restful sleep awaits in the primary bedroom of this OBX beach house! A king size bed made of sand-blasted solid Rustic Poplar with metal accents and coordinating bedside tables create a rustic-yet-modern vibe. A large-scale mirror features a dark bronze frame with antique mirror side panels and corners with copper cladding and nail head details. For texture and comfort, we selected an area rug crafted from hand tufted ivory wool and rescued denim. Sheer window treatments keep the room light and airy. Need a sleeping space at your vacation home for the children? We created a bunk bed configuration that maximizes space and accommodates sleeping for eight at our client's OBX beach house. It's super functional and also fun! Stairwells with soaring ceilings call for statement lighting! We are in love with this gorgeous chandelier we chose for our client's OBX beach house.

The Master Bedroom is a monochrome beauty, with an understated aesthetic in mind. We repurposed a wooden bed, adding 4 posters to it and staining it in sharp black. This black poster bed is beautifully highlighted in the vanilla white room. A chest of drawers at the foot of the bed catered to their functional needs while also looking fabulous, completing the entire frame. Opposite the bed, we created a minimalistic study corner, fencing this zone in fluted panels to create a detail that is nuanced.

These fun clients enlisted us after building a beautiful house by themselves for many months. They had painted themselves into a bit of a corner stylistically and knew when to ask for help. We salvaged most of what they had chosen (as it was good and fine), but they had half modern/half traditional cape cod hodgepodge style all in a contemporary new construction house. We had them reselect some new furnishings that would help them achieve the overall look, feel, and function they were wanting. We loved working with these clients because they were not afraid of whimsy and were open to most ideas Jamie had for them. Plus they let us use those sconces in the dining room we'd been eyeing for years, so...win. Great clients. Great results. __ David Guettler

Nia designed the bed, night stands, lamp and bedding to have a non-gender feel. The soothing light blue and gold colors of the bedding paired with the neutral grey colored custom woven wool carpet enforces the overlapping design concept used throughout the home. The red accent stool and chest both have an Asian feel which is featured throughout the home. The reed art work banded in leather harmonizes with the lamps of wood and leather. The bed also has the overlapping of textural contrast of the dark and light once again reinforcing the design concept. Photo by Roger Turk
