Interior Entry Screen - etched glass Martin: etched glass feels too formal (Diane: agree with Martin that this example of etched glass is probably not for us. I think we both need to understand what’s proposed to weigh in with what we like. Presumably we are going for a barrier that still lets some light / visibility through?)
Ferrara Marble Argento Martin: this could be interesting if paired with a countertop with some color. (Diane: I prefer the glossy subway-type tiles to these, and I don’t like the neutral gray color with the stony variation very much. Maybe that would be okay if there weren’t as many marbled variations in the countertop??)
hamptons sail (Diane: I prefer this color, I think, over the more distinct blue. I do like the photos of back splashes where there is a bit of scattered hombre color / variations in tones between the tiles going on, rather than a solid swath of the same. And yet, I don’t love the tiles when they are individually marbled, like the gray sample. Not necessarily a lot of rhyme or reason to my likes...)
Love the bar stools. I do not like the way the countertop covers the side of the island.
I saved this one for the tile love the interesting raised pattern!
Backsplash tiles (not cabinets) (From Diane: I do not like this back splash, it’s too fussy. Martin likes a more traditional style than me - I like cleaner, more modern lines. I moved into Martin’s house when we married - I’m hoping we can get a bit more me into this kitchen upgrade. Also, I think white tiles or tiles with an interesting color are more suitable with all wood-tone cabinets. The earth tones just don’t do it for me in this photo with all the wood.)
Backsplash tiles (not counter or dark cabinets)
Large White Subway_Norwalk Tile (From Diane: I like the subway tiles. I think both Martin and I were thinking of more color, rather than white. But I think we’re thinking about it from our current kitchen, with its overdone whiteness. After looking at tons of kitchen pictures last night, I do think white tile backsplash might be a good option with all wood-tone cabinets. Or, if we’re brave, some sort of interesting color. I do not think the earth tones Martin is drawn to for the back splash will work with wood-tone cabinets - too much neutral brown.)
Like the palette, and open feeling. Do not want an appendage hanging from the ceiling haha. (From Diane: I like this too, for the reasons you cite. Possibly too modern for Martin.) Diane is right; this is pretty appealing, but like just a few touches (backsplash color, cabinet faces or handles) to soften the overall design.
Mix of colors, lighting, solid backsplash.. Martin: I quite like most of this combination too.
Wood & White cabinets
Mix natural wood with painted cabinets? (From Diane: I looked at a ton of Houzz kitchen photos last night. Given how much we dislike our white cabinets - they are also of poor quality - I was surprised how many kitchen used white or painted cabinets. Seems like there are way more examples of that than all wood cabinets. And I was surprised how much I liked those kitchen pictures. I am interested in considering a mix - I am now concerned all wood-tone cabinets may feel a bit overwhelming - but all one type of cabinet is more classic, and we may need to stick with that for Martin to feel comfortable with them. I also want something that’s going to age well, and I’m not sure if this mix of cabinets is just a fad or if we would like the look for a long time.)
Pental Quartz - Santenay Honed
VG fir cabinetsk - flat front (From Diane: I like the flat front; Martin prefers the other example with the wood framing. If we’re not going to go with flat front, then, for me, the framing needs to be as simple as possible, such as the other example you shared here.)
Clear Fir Cabinets. Martin: I like these faces and color tone.
