I've been trying to replace all my door knobs and hinges with stainless steel after I found out they worked best for the bath and don't look bad at all with either silver colored -- chrome -- bath fixtures or stainless steel kitchen appliances or brushed steel lamps and/or with most overhead lights. In the bath, over time, everything else I've used and my parents have used has discolored. The size and shape of stainless steel hinges I need for the exterior doors I now have, however, remain elusive. Also, since you're selecting for a new build ... for what it's worth: ... when you choose your toilets, choose the slightly higher ones for all but a bath intended for small children; and ... when you choose your tub/shower fixtures, do not choose a single lever control; and ... when you choose your kitchen faucet, do choose a single lever control; and ... unless you have a truly huge kitchen, for daily use at least, a peninsula actually works better than an island you need to walk around.
