Pastiche of Patchwork: Parikh Residence
This is my parents own 3 bhk home at South Mumbai.
We wanted to upcycle, reuse as much of the existing furniture, wood etc that we had from the previous home but give the interiors a fresh new look. Even for the new materials, we reused the leftover pieces where possible! (eg: the leftover cut pieces of the pop design tile ceilings as borders for the dining area mural)
We also wanted to maximize on supporting Indian designers/ stores (like the banana fiber light from Oorja, Magnolia armchairs etc) or even local craftsmen (like the carved headboard from Orissa etc) rather than opting for importing furniture from Italy or China etc. This also made the process a lot more personal as we were intimately involved in the making of the custom pieces like the sofas, den armchairs etc.
