What do you all think about this living room design?
Comments (14)I like the ceiling. I think the hanging lights are too fancy and distract from the ceiling decor. A simpler light would look better or sticking with the canned lights you have. The walls have too many big, black things on them. It's hard to tell if they are windows with shade --- in which case I'd pick something lighter, perhaps to echo the ceiling, TVs (how many do you need?) or what. I'd consider a big piece of statement art in the place of at least one. If you're on a budget, get a large, high quality photo in the right colors, you can take it yourself. Sepia and black architectural might work. I like more color and more natural light. You may have closed the shades for a better picture, so it's hard to comment on the light, plus windows are a feature of your room, not exactly a decorator's choice. I would consider how to get a few small pops of color in, pillows, flowers, candles, maybe even a runner rug along the right wall. If you are doing this as part of a portfolio, the entire ensemble would look more welcoming with a few touches like someone lives there. Something on the coffee table, for example. A few books and a candle. A tray with tea things, a vase of flowers or basket of fruit. Pick one or two things and make it composed. You see this a lot in designer Houzz photos. Here's an example, you note this picture would be a lot more stark with an empty table: https://www.houzz.com/photos/21-house-contemporary-living-room-san-francisco-phvw-vp~60642...See MoreNormal mirror/Frosted mirror/white paint - What reflects light best ?
Comments (5)Hi Cynthia, thanks for your comment. I still haven't decided about lighting. First, I'm trying to get as much natural light as possible. If there are still some dark corners left, then I'm planing to use light on those areas....See Morewhat are the effective ways of natural ventilation for houses?
Comments (3)For new homes: 1. Window Height. Installing windows that are at least 3.6 feet high helps indoor air movement and also reduces the heat load on ceilings. 2. Wind/Air deflectors. These can be positioned either horizontally or vertically to redirect air flow and can be installed in the form of overhangs, louvers or slats and should be placed on a higher level to redirect air motion. 3. Clerestories. Clerestories not only provide natural illumination, but can also improve air movement. Since hot air is known to go upward, a clerestory is able to act as a vent and space for the hot air to accumulate. 4. Window orientation. Windows should be placed on the north and south areas for optimum cross-ventilation, unless it hinders aesthetic views. This encourages natural breeze and draws in good air flow into interiors, especially during the summer months. 5. Transitional spaces. Incorporate courts, balconies, atriums and other open spaces that encourage air flow....See MoreAsk the Houzz Experts: Best Bedroom Arrangements for your Space-CLOSED
Comments (11)Hello Kayzad Shroff & Maria Leon! I'm designing my bedroom all by myself and now I want it to seem like I'm living among a rainforest. So I went for wooden times, veneer laminate wardrobes. The bed will be a platform bed so it'll be low to the ground. I'm now stuck with the ceiling and the wall opposite to the headboard. I thought of wall murals, but that particular wall has windows on the right side, so can't get the wall murals/wallpapers to give that Forest feel. So could you help with your suggestions?...See Morecharleee
