Planning a HOUSE

What kind of points one should know .. or one should focus .. for planning and placing there bedroom and kitchen etc. at specific places. What should be the answer to the question .. 'Why a bedroom is placed here in the plan not there? WHY?'

Much of that depends on the sun. You would want the sunniest location to be the kitchen. The darkest location to be the bedrooms and living room for TV viewing. If there is a view you would want your living room to take advantage of it. Bathrooms should be placed so there is a window.

Bedrooms are normally at one end and family areas grouped together. Master bedrooms are often times in a separate area to allow the parents privacy.

The south is what gets light most of the day. The north is the darker side of the home. East gets the morning sun and west the evening. It's difficult to watch TV when the light is in your eyes and the room is very bright. Most people have TV time in the evening.

Another issue...geographically is the weather. You would want to warm the common rooms with the sun if you live in a cold area. In a warm climate you would want just the opposite.

For your office , you can go for the right side second entry from the main entrance of your house. This way you can make a full glass, sound proof, no disturbance and a comfortable in house office . you can have one more entry from inside for the easy accessibility for the personal use. In your dining area,there's a door leading to the balcony. Make it a 3 track glass door for the good daylight and a natural view from your hall also. In the kitchen, make your washing area of the size 10'8"x 4' . This way you get two perfect rectangle for a perfect planning for the kitchen as well as the washing area for utensils and washing machine.

Hello Neetu, Trying to explain the suggestions earlier made with an image. See if the following changes makes the space more usable and open. Please see the numbers marked on the attached image. 1- Open up Dressing Area. No need of closing it. 2& 3 Pull out the Porch and increase the room size. 4- Change the direction of toilet, increase the size and include handwash within it. 5 Open Living area will comfortably seat 6-8 people. 6,7 - If your designer agrees this will allow you to increase the room sizes. by 20 odd ft. 8- Close the kitchen door . Change alignment of Kitchen slab and decrease wall/slab size on the other wall 9- Move Pooja Unit to the wall marked. Thanks Amit Cornerstone Designs. Bangalore.
