Ideally the tv should be near the sofa. But if that is not possible then you can make a simple wooden shelf with the wood panel going right behind the tv. Something like this. You can make only one shelf but next to the tv not below it as it may hamper the movement near the dining table

A lot of remodelling would depend upon the budget .BTW, I really appreciate your honesty about the affordability !
