Curtain Heading For Ceiling Track Advice ( Curtain Advice Please)

Hello, I hope someone can help please.

We have had new curtains and a ceiling track fitted in our main bedroom, we took advice from the curtain company who made them and chose a single pleat heading, we told them we wanted the curtains hung so the top of the curtain was in front of the track hiding the track when closed. Now fitted they do not hang properly when open, as the fabric between the pleats cannot concetina backwards beacuse they are in front of the track, instead its comes forward and there are unsightly kinks at the bottom of the pleats.

We have spoken to the curtain company and they now say single pleat curtains should be hung under the track, which we do not want. They have agreed to change the heading, but will not suggest which type will suit being hung in front of a ceiling track.

Any advice on which type of heading suits being hung in front of a ceiling track, rather than underneath, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Adam, for curtains that need to hang in front of the track, you might consider a double or triple pinch pleat heading. These styles allow the fabric to fold neatly when drawn and maintain a structured, elegant appearance even when the curtains are open. This type of heading will help avoid the unsightly kinks you're experiencing with the single pleat and will effectively conceal the track as desired. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for the advice, and taking the time to reply.

Would the issue with the fabric between the pleats not going backwards when open still cause an issue? with the single pleat, there are the kinks but also the fabric between the pleats folds forwards when open instead of backwards, which looks odd to me or is that normal.

The photo's a bit dark, so I can't quite tell your colors. Looks like you have all solid colors in the room: sort of a brick-colored upholstry, dark wood framing and cream walls, with plants outside the window. I think you need so 'pattern' to relieve the solids...at a minimum a tone-on-tone so that there is some texture or pattern involved. get close approximations of your existing colors (swatches, paint chips) and head off to the fabric store looking for something that doesn't feel overpowering, buy a yard and bring it home for trial and error -- you may end up with great pillow fabirc, or a new drape.

Leather sofas can really dominate the room and can give an overall cold feeling. I would add some earthy elements, like a wood coffee table with glass or metal. Go to Restoration Hardware's website and look at their sofa room scenes. And I'm sorry I think the art is too harsh for the room. That's all your eye goes to in the room. too overpowering. I would look for something softer or maybe a cool mirror and I would add color to the room with pillows and some colorful lamps. I also think woven blinds would look great. They add warmth and give a finished look. The color of your window treatments should contrast your wall color a bit, not match it or else it starts to look generic and blah.. You have warm walls, warm floors and the woven blinds, like Hunter Douglas brand would pull it all together for you.

What a beautiful house, Shahbaaz! I live in a similar house - a 150-year-old colonial bungalow in Kumaon. You have already received lots of excellent advice from better-qualified people, so all I would say is, keep its age and heritage character the central theme. The white tiles do clash, I am afraid ... flooring with terracotta tiles would echo the roof and look lovely. The columns and the arches over the doors and windows are amazing. But I'd say, leave it all chuna-painted - there's a beauty and softness to it. Don't let the painters add too much neel (indigo) in the limewash -- in the hills where I live, they put far too much if I don't watch out and the result is a harsh white. Natural lime has a softer, creamy look.

Hi Nithin, Thank you for your reply. installing the POP curling would mean I will loose the existing shape yeah? little worried that I would loose height in the room. The structure used to be a window which I broke down to make way to a balcony. In a few days the structure will be replaced with sliding glass doors. Any recommendations on color as well? thanks again.

I have both and the top hung ones look much neater. The curtains are linen from H&M and we just put hooks on the tape that was already stitched. There are a few options with the heading tape. If you top hang them then the folds are much better. They are in front in my bedroom and the folds are untidy. If you use a slim white track its barely visible anyway.
