Can a marble countertop be removed without breaking it?

I just completed a substantial and expensive remodel on a home I purchased. The people who ran the sewer scope completely missed a huge hole in the cast iron pipe running through the foundation. So now I have to tear up the floor and remove cabinets and a brand new marble countertop in the laundry room. Aside from being maddening because they had 8 months to deal with this when there were no walls, flooring, water heater, etc., my contractors are very concerned about removing the marble countertop without damaging it. Does anyone have any advice here? Can this be done or should I just drink wine straight from the bottle and accept the inevitable? Thanks for your help!
