If you can't clean up the painted edge, you could always add a 1x3 piece of wood as molding. You can even carry it up to the ceiling to frame that wallpaper. I don't see that paint color in the wallpaper, or maybe it's a lighter version of the flower centers. Maybe stencil on a design using the darker color, or another color from the wallpaper to help tie it together. Then narrow floating shelves or vertical frames or something in the painted areas it you feel you need it. Maybe turn the bed around so the wallpaper is the headboard.

If you love that wallpaper, use it in bathroom. Not really right for behind bed. I would go a drum style chandelier. In a silk pale gold. Your bed looks zen or Asian to me. I love it. But, you don't. Need to much with it. Keep it simple a more formal drape on windows, color would depend on wall color and bedding. I'm thinking a dramatic peacock satin. Use a lighter same tone on walls a rich teal. Ceiling can be gold leaf. With alight that cast shadows on ceiling at night. Then your wall paper will tie in. Furn should be mirrored.

I love your wallpaper (?) and those pillows with the dots look great in front of it! But I get the feeling that you have a lot of different styles in that room (traditional, pop-modern, ethnic) and the small pictures don't really add something. I suggest you gather them all on one wall, try to make that niche with the wallpaper the focal point of the room (can you center the sofa or the dining table in front of it?) and if possible, remove a couple of sconces...Do you really need them all?

As others have said, it depends on the space. As a child I loved velvet flocked because it was so "touchable" LOL! In my extended family we tend to use the velvet flocked in dining rooms, the foil in bathrooms, and a high quality wallpaper in other rooms. The design is totally reliant upon the space it is being used in. In our Victorian farmhouse most of the rooms have the big roses or hydrangeas appropriate to the period.
