There is contrast between the traditional furniture and the focal point of the floor which pops, draws attention. I would recover the sofas in cream colored soft fabric - suede. I would leave the curtains grey, and put down a large neutral area rug. The edges of the room would show the pattern of the floor. I would color the wall and add texture to it, but not too dark as the room will appear smaller. Add a picture and put a nice plant holder, large vase in the left corner of the room - an oriental-style vase. Or, a cream-stripe fabric on the sofas. You could go soft or bold in this room - depending on your taste.

I agree that a tall lamp would be a very good idea, but I think the most important thing you could do would be to get much fuller curtains, and I've picked some that reflect the luxurious fabric of your couches. Because they are dark, I've balanced them with really bright art and a pair of light vases on the table that seem to me to match your pretty light chairs rather well. Was going suggest the same things. This room is begging for some colour. I can see from the greys that you like to be understated. So add some stripes, checks, or other geometric prints if you don't want anything that leans towards the feminine. One coloured wall, say peach, behind the bed with some bright framed prints would certainly help. The flat grey roller blinds and the duvet cover are adding to the dull effect. The blank wall behind the bed right now is particularly depressing :( But, if you are partial to a grey theme, you could break that up into black and white prints in your pillow covers for instance, rather than flat greys. And then add a little beige to soften the look. And yes, bedside lamps soften the ambience a LOT
