This is a tough one without re-doing the floors. Could you call a tile store? Maybe they have some type of treatment to 'rough up' the tiles. Also, since you have elders in the home, grab bars placed in well thought out locations might be a good idea anyway, along with skid-free rugs.

You should better go for a natural garden instead of an artificial one!! You really have a very good space to work on ! U can have a mdf wall panel (jaali work) like around 4'x8' installed on the main wall, lit artificially from the rear side. Then a row of planters sown at a ht of 2'.. then a l-shaped seater across it! you can go for the light colours if you have well ventilation system ( kitchen chimney). or if you don't have, go for the dark shades , it will help to maintain easier, i will suggest you can go for the bi colored shades like gray , jet black or dark brown and chocolate , HOWEVER its your home and you are the boss. choose whatever you want, coz its LOVE which makes your house a HOME.
