After spending several years abroad I can share my observations. Most homes with snow fall use spanish or a slight curve. This is in an area that has: high winds, 2-4 ft snow intermittent years, and rain every third day. For snow and ice, some (but not many) have custom log braces about 4 foot from the gutter line. To be honest, falling snow and ice is part of living in colder climates. I would ask this company to get you in touch with their clients who own "the system" they are advocating. This way, you'll know what to expect from the product. If the shields help melt snow and ice, perhaps this is a good thing. All I would add to that is your offload gutter system and spouts are placed properly to avoid splashing against the home. Is it possible for you to get rid of some under-counter cabinet space next to the sink to accommodate the dishwasher there?
