likithraaj, OMG - serious? You really need to sit down and do up a proper floor plan complete with where plumbing, electrical, hvac etc., etc. are going to run. I can't believe you've demolished your home before having a proper floor plan! Hire a local professional interior designer to come out and get that portion done right - and, to anyone else out there - GET YOUR DESIGN ON PAPER FIRST BEFORE YOU DEMOLISH. It is so much easier to change things and not be pressured into making last minute decisions. likithraaj, your going to have to make some quick decisions - ones that I'm not prepared to assist you with at this juncture until a proper floor plan has been submitted. If you want to highlight the staircase wall then your could use earthy colours such as a yellow ochre! The wall could be enhanced even more by using suitable frames and making a good collage composition for all the photos that you have (I can see many lying on the dining table). This colour would match well with wooden furnitures

you are thinking about the space right now. it looks odd, no doubt. 1) when you fill in with the furniture, just make sure the three steps are hidden. 2) consider three potted plants of different height, so the rectangle is complete. 3) glass bowl with Siamese fighting fish for each step 4) figurines of different heights 5) 2inch square wooden bar on each step up to the top of the rectangle. and complete the entire rectangle if you want with a smaller rectangle open in the center my suggestion is, there is a reason why this space ended up like this. it will look great once you put something there. things like these are what make your house unique.
