The base cabinet is anywhere between 28-34 inches depending on the height of the homeowners.
From thereon the bottom of the wall cabinets start with a gap of 18-24 inches.
The wall cabinets are usually not made until ceiling in indian kitchens. They are of 24-30 inches height.
However, taking cues from the western designs some people prefer making the wall cabinets upto ceiling.
You should take the call based on your storage requirements. Another option that is common in indian kitchens is a loft after the wall cabinets. It looks clumsy though.
It all depends upon the design the upper cabinets can go upto the ceiling i prefer that as a designer as it gives a clean look to the kitchen. Kitchen counter top between 32-34inches after that leave 24 inches for dado and then the upper cabinets can go upto the ceiling.
