What is the ideal granite slab size to use for Kitchen slab?

Whats the ideal Granite slab size to be used in Kitched... Someone is saying 20mm is good enough.. someone is saying 40mm is good.. Also for the granite slab, is it good have concerete pillar support or its okay to use the wooden cabinet only as support?

20mm is more easily available, cheaper, and have more variants. It is suitable for direct application on carcass.

40mm in available for limited Colors and is obviously costly. Concrete structure is recommended if you plan for 40mm else it is an overkill.

Our recommendation is 20 mm with plywood carcass.

One Follow-up question..

Is there any strength issue with 20mm Granite slab over 40mm Granite.. Are the 20mm granite slab prone to chipping or crack on normal usage.. Usage would be like, chopping vegetables, keeping hot vessels,.. The normal usage what happens in normal indian kitchen.. I just want to be sure that I decide based on experts judgement (like you), as people are just throwing their opinion based on their guess...

You list is all "stone" products. Stone products are natural. The durability is guaranteed with stone. Stain resistant...remove marble and granite from your list. Both can stain and etch and both will do this with "flooring" more than they will with a counter top. Gloss levels all change...but it will take years to do it. All stones have maintenance = homeowner needs to work at keeping stone looking good. Stone = expensive. There is no "benefit" for "reasonable" when working with stone. They all cost plenty of money. Stone is expensive. No way around it. If you want "glossy" that doesn't stain for a "good price" then you have forgotten to mention the BEST option: porcelain tiles. Porcelain will do everything you want for a lower price. Stone is expensive, it can stain (especially "oil" stains) it will "etch" or lose gloss level with certain liquids (acid based liquids will do this) and they all need to be maintained and eventually need repolishing to maintain "gloss". Durable is all you can expect out of stone. The rest of your wish list belongs with porcelain tiles.

Tiles can start from 50 rs/sqft, depending on what you want to apply. Kitchen slab, granite starts from 60-70 rs/sqft and the lighting for the ceiling starts around 350 per piece, depends n your ceiling design. This is the rough estimate of all of th items listed :)

Installing a 19 mm thickstone carcass (ie, the back, sides and floor slab) is an almost foolproof way to prevent termites. But this requires experienced and skilled labour to make sure that the plumb line is maintained. This seems to be a specialty in places like Jaipur and Gurgaon, so that's where you get this kind of labour. However, for fixing the shutters and drawers, you will still need carpenters and I must warn you that drilling into stone is again a laborious and slow process. And coordinating between the stone layers and carpenters can be a bit of a pain. I have worked with this option and also with plywood alone. There is no issue with the 20 mm Thk granite for the kitchen daily usage.The 20 mm Thk Granite can take up your daily shredding chopping of vegetables, heat equipment, hot pots etc. So far i haven't recived or heard any kind of issues on strength or cracking in terms of daily normal usage.

When you compare 40mm to 20mm its double the mass and hence obviously stronger.

But as my colleague said above 20 mm is sufficient for normal kitchen usage. Just ensure it is laid on ply support.

Quite often , people do double patti on the visible border. Looks good and adds to corner strength.

For this rental property, we have used a 20 mm stone, but the border is doubled to make it look like a 40 mm.
