What is the best way to furnish/decorate a narrow living room?
Comments (1)I am an amateur lover of home decorating. I too have a very awkward long narrow living room that is 350cm by 620cm. Additionally it has diagonal traffic flow from the front entry to the rest of the flat. The owners have built a cabinet at one end for the TV, etc. I think I would make a cosy seating area at one end of your long living room. Place a grey or brown sofa at one end but not against the wall. I like the idea of a narrow console table behind the sofa with a table lamp, a plant or a large statue. This brings the end wall closer in. A peachy or raspberry carpet in front of the sofa will pick up the wall colour and anchor this seating area. (grey and some browns also coordinate with raspberry/peach). A couple of raspberry sofa cushions can help include the wall colour into your overall scheme. Single chairs opposite the sofa allows visual and actual flow down the narrow room and completes this seating area. At the other end of the long narrow living room I would place a reading chair, a floor lamp and a small round coffee table. If there is room you could have a tall bookshelf with you favourite books. What do you have on the long side walls? I have windows and doorways on both long sides. I decided to use pull up shades on the windows instead of curtains which I thought would make my narrow living room look more narrow. The wall colour is white but I think I will tone it down to a soft grey. I plan to paint the end walls a darker grey....See MoreHow to utilize area under this staircase?
Comments (19)Hi, There are a number of ways in which the area under a staircase can be utilized. In case of a cramped house or space restrictions, this space can be used for providing storage, services or even a powder room as elaborated below : In case there are no space constraints and all the other areas are taken care of, the space below the stairs can be used for add ons such as a library, study, cellar or a minibar. In case there are any dogs in the house, this area serves as a spacious and compact kennel too : Apart from this, if the space is to be treated solely considering aesthetics, it can be livened up using a bit of indoor landscaping, sculptures and water body : Hope these ideas help. Comments (13)Yogender Sharma To make a grass cover, the first thing you will need to ensure if whether the structure of the half basement is capable to holding a green roof. The next would be to waterproof the top again, keeping in mind the soil and the constant contact with water. Once these things are done, you need to locate were it is you want the lawn and ensure you have access to a drainage within or at best near it the area. You will then require the services of a horticulturist to help you set up the lawn. In terms of cost, it really depends on quite a few factors Existing condition of the structure Location Quality of Horticulturist Type of Green Cover etc.......See Moreneed advice on curtains, center table, position of plants for drawing
Comments (9)Hi Aditi, You have beautiful ethnic style furniture and a spacious drawing room. For this space to look more vibrant and lively here are our suggestions: This being a typical traditional style seating, would like to suggest you to change the upholstery of the current geometric pattern to a plain solid colour. Need to add a combination of printed and plain cushion covers which will give the necessary colour pop, matching the palette of the room. Add a huge area rug to bring in the necessary colour and warmth to the room. Please go for bamboo chick blinds for the window treatment. As this adds up to the ethnic traditional style For the above ideas please visit the link shared, which is on similar lines, and will help you decorate your room and the interiors in a similar. Add some tall plants on all the four corners of your seating space.
