Renovate sitting room

I've just purchased a house and am looking to make it my own. Below is a photo of the current lounge. I'm going to get wide oak floors in a natural colour and deep brown leather couch with grey upholstered danish chairs, but I need advice on the fitted cabinets/shelves.

Should I keep them?
Is it possible to paint them?
What should I be aware of if I do decide to paint them?
I was thinking either white or grey, but which shade of grey would be best?

Any comments or advice would be great!

I'd keep them. They are beautiful and suit the room. You can paint them, I'm pretty sure of that but don't ask me about the technicalities. It's a bit of a shame, because it looks like the vein in the wood continues beautifully, but it won't work with natural oak.
You could paint them white and paint the insides of the cubes grey or blue or whichever colour you'd like for a different touch.

At least, I don't think it will work with an oak floor as you described.

I've inherited this house and started some renovation work. My problem is how to decorate the living cum dining area. The colour palette in my mind is beige and orange as The highlight. On wall 1 I would like to put the tv. But I don't how how to arrange my chairs and sofa and the dining table which we r yet to buy. The 4th wall shows the kitchen door. You do have enough space for a small dining table , sofa and temple. You might want to section off your temple with a room divider . Most of the ceiling looks like veneer on plywood and the balance is plain gypsum . If so , then just polish the veneer either in the same shade of wood as your furniture or one tone darker or lighter . The gypsum ceiling can remain white . If the ceiling height is too low , do not go for a jhoomer but rather a simple mounted light. Good Lighting is key to any design to look good.

The built-in furniture is gorgeous, but I if you're looking to have timber floors I can see why you'd be considering painting it. Getting the balance right between natural finishes and planes of colour can be tricky. Below is a link to a similar project we worked on in Edinburgh.

Hi there I would keep them as it's a large room and they look well made. Would you consider bleaching them or getting them stained in a colour close to the new floor colour. Alternatively I would possibly paint them the same colour that you decide to do the walls. I think the key is that they blend into the room and don't stand out and take centre stage!
