This is a shrub or small tree used in the container, Cotinus coggygria. It was in a 2 gallon pot and planted in the center of the container. It will be pruned back to keep it small. It does not really get a flower, there is a plume-like seed cluster that forms in the summer.
The common name is smoke tree, it comes in a variety of colors including a nice green with pinkish seed clusters. It does well in our zone (Chicago, Zone 5) and makes a nice ornamental accent in the garden. It usually likes full sun. I hope this helps with your question.
