Effectiveness is influenced by capacity of unit. If you are trying to mount a 270 cfm fan more than 30" above cooktop, then it may make noise but will do little to clear the air. If it is 1000 cfm, then it can be higher than 30". So the answer is "it depends". Most people don't mount them more than 36" above the cooktop unless it is a really high powered unit.

Hi, Our new home is nearing completion. We are looking for suggestions and ideas in decorating our living room and kitchen based on the plan attached. All walls in living room are double ceiling. 1) We plan to put our TV on wall B. We are open to wall mounting or getting a custom made cabinet there. 2) Fireplace has a nice mantle 3) Wall A is really big and tall. I am wondering what to put there. 4) Ceiling has 4 recessed lights 5) Windows on wall D faces East so there will be ample morning light. Windows are really huge. 3 at the bottom and 3 at the top. 6) Flooring is hand scraped hardwood in dark color Specifically it will help us if you can suggest - Wall Colors, faux finish ideas, art work, paintings, pictures ideas lighting ideas Blinds / shutters ideas - Is it advisavble to put blinds/shutters on the 3 top windows Any other suggestions are welcome. a much taller head board, something to soften up the cabinets. the bench at the end needs new fabric, and possible paint raise the bed with risers on the feet. warm neutral tones.

Hey Aleen, It is rather dark but it looks really pretty. Until you redo the kitchen, here are a few suggestions! Paint the lower cabinets white since they are sandwiched between two dark surfaces Paint the upper ones a beautiful pastel sage (I love you colour options BTW, the mushroom and sage sound blissful) and mushroom grey (really really REALLY light) on the walls You can lay down a light coloured and thin outdoor rug on the floor to make the space lighter add plants to liven up the space (could be faux!) Lastly, the little sliver of the wall on the left is a bit of an eyesore. Try painting it over (black or sage green) and if it doesn't look nice (I have my doubts) then hang something there, like a faux plant, or some other kitchen decor item.
