Comments (4)You have a nice geometric, somewhat masculine look going here. I would play that up. I don't think you need to change the wall or carpet color as they seem to be a nice neutral background. Are they cream? is the purple more plum? and is the blue more of a steel blue/gray? The furniture is chocolate brown? I love the striped pillow on the chair. I would layer a wool steel blue/gray area rug and then play up the blue/plum in the pillows. A wool plaid or blue gray herringbone in a couple of throw pillows (replace a few of the solid color pillows) could help to pull it all together. Kind of like the colors in the picture of this bag. Adding brown leather cording would be a great compliment on the pillows. (Not sure the area rug in front of the TV is adding anything)...See Moreneed help to select curtains and carpet colour
Comments (50)There is contrast between the traditional furniture and the focal point of the floor which pops, draws attention. I would recover the sofas in cream colored soft fabric - suede. I would leave the curtains grey, and put down a large neutral area rug. The edges of the room would show the pattern of the floor. I would color the wall and add texture to it, but not too dark as the room will appear smaller. Add a picture and put a nice plant holder, large vase in the left corner of the room - an oriental-style vase. Or, a cream-stripe fabric on the sofas. You could go soft or bold in this room - depending on your taste....See MoreWhat is the best way to furnish/decorate a narrow living room?
Comments (1)I am an amateur lover of home decorating. I too have a very awkward long narrow living room that is 350cm by 620cm. Additionally it has diagonal traffic flow from the front entry to the rest of the flat. The owners have built a cabinet at one end for the TV, etc. I think I would make a cosy seating area at one end of your long living room. Place a grey or brown sofa at one end but not against the wall. I like the idea of a narrow console table behind the sofa with a table lamp, a plant or a large statue. This brings the end wall closer in. A peachy or raspberry carpet in front of the sofa will pick up the wall colour and anchor this seating area. (grey and some browns also coordinate with raspberry/peach). A couple of raspberry sofa cushions can help include the wall colour into your overall scheme. Single chairs opposite the sofa allows visual and actual flow down the narrow room and completes this seating area. At the other end of the long narrow living room I would place a reading chair, a floor lamp and a small round coffee table. If there is room you could have a tall bookshelf with you favourite books. What do you have on the long side walls? I have windows and doorways on both long sides. I decided to use pull up shades on the windows instead of curtains which I thought would make my narrow living room look more narrow. The wall colour is white but I think I will tone it down to a soft grey. I plan to paint the end walls a darker grey....See MoreJoanne Burman
