I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer.

Seems weird not to incorporate it into the design -- I'm all about having things "look intentional" rather than working around them later. Like could the island have connected to this, rather than extending past it? or been L-shaped, so there's room for an extra stool, and also a wall cabinet? Anyway, hard to discuss that in the abstract without kitchen plans. I'm with miacometlady's original advice to not worry about it right now, and decide how to deal with it once the bulk of your kitchen is in place. You might find that you hardly notice it, with all the beautiful new finishes, or it might seem obvious to put some stainless or glass shelves there, or maybe simple is best and one simple hanging picture does the job. Don't stress about it until After. :)

great place to put your pots and pans on hooks or little shelves for the spice collection, inset fridge so it is counter depth, a cabinet or counter with a lovely mosaic, look at these cool examples. just cool little village, my restaurant is the bldg on the end, no? my raft is on the horizon splashing your feet in the pool hang a ladle by it so guests can sing while you cook that chair is just calling you yeah, well just cause they goofed and put it in the bath. Sorry, Just did not understand the pic. You can also put ikea bars with various utensils hung from them.

Hi Smita, A wall can add a lot of character to an existing space if treated wisely. - Even if its a small wall, a pop of colour can really liven it up. A collage of your favourite posters/ family photographs/ tribal masks/ wall sculptures can always add character and interest. These accents serve as good conversation starters as well. - A wallpaper is always an option when you want to add a bit of drama to the room. Couple it up with a large mirror and a couple of beautiful bracket lights to liven it up. - A wall mural adds an artistic touch to the wall. You could try getting it done by local artists or for a simpler option opt for decals. - A textured wall with a nice artwork or a painting can never go wrong if used wisely.
