Lighting is always a really wonderful, easy, and fun way to transform any room. Such a different mood can be acquired when you have the perfect light to enhance the true beauty of your tastes. I would definitely say wall color should always stay pretty neutral but even that mid-century modern look can always be made up with perfect accessories. The edgy look of Scandinavian style can come from the bold definition between white/ off white walls with a simple stenciled pattern with another neutral and or modern color of mauve or orange. When lighting comes into play, you probably can sell off those lighting fixtures to reimburse you to get a mid-century modern style chandelier. Add in sconces or modern style pendants that can coexist with the design of the chandelier. That might also be a good starting place to help base your other options in design of how you can create a beautiful home for yourself. If you don't love it and it's at the top of your price range you should probably keep looking. You can change the style of many things but as Patricia said, it will cost you. I spent about 200K renovating a mid century a few years ago (mostly just cosmetic changes) so that can give you an idea of how much lighting, flooring, hardware changes, etc. can run you.

This house sounds like the opposite of everything you actually like! Pass on it and keep looking.
