Help with support for counter overhang

I'm having a quartz countertop installed with a 39" overhang... a peninsula for seating. The peninsula is at counter height. I need some sort of pole or base to support the countertop. I'm having a very difficult time finding something to use. I'd appreciate any help.

Your cabinet manufacturer may have leg supports. Are you using existing cabinets? You'll need to show us a photo of your cabinets to make suggestions. Big box stores may have "Table legs" you can stain to match your cabinets to use.

You don't need a pole (but of course you can have one if you want). To cantilever a kitchen counter, what you need is cold, hard steel... These folks can help you. http://www.countertopbracket.com/

Pankaj, I just realized that initially you told us that the bathroom area was 12'-0" x 9'-0" and later you mentioned that it was 11'-8" x 8'-0". In the last floor plan, I forgot to change the bathroom with the new dimensions. Below is the floor plan with the correct dimensions for the bathroom. The bedroom is ok, I drew it 19'-2" x 12'-6". The new layout does not change the way things are placed. Everything still fit. The only difference is that the vanity is now 4'-4" long instead of 4'-8". and the toilet is closer to the shower by 1'-0". Can you give me the lengths of the walls K and L. They are the walls between the vanity and the shower area. I will send you the new layout once you give me the length of these 2 walls.

I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer.

Thanks Patricia and cpaul! I hadn't thought about glass. And I guess I should specify that a fully modular kitchen would not withstand the climate lol. The doors and Windows in General are traditionally made of teak wood and do warp somewhat but it's not a huge issue, so I fiured if all I am dealing with in the kitchen is the cabinet door it shouldn't be too hard to maintain. I actually ended up finding a blog about someone living in the tropical Philippine weather and how they covered their concrete counter with cabinets. This was their starting and final result. there are more photos in the blog. They basically recommended some prefabricated cabinets and strong hinges and screws for the wood frame.

Hi Cornerstone, I read your feedback 1. Profile handles I was late as the doors were already ready and it was too much of re-work. Regarding putting handles 2. Sharp edge can cause problem thats why the handles I have put are rounded on the edge not to hurt. 3. Where I did make a mistake was Did not put fillers. If I had put fillers on the sides the door issues could be resolved The upper cabinet handles. This is actually not my fault I had told them to put the handles in the center but they thought these are not drawers but rather cabinets so they should be put in the location where we put the vertical handles. By the time I came to check it was too late and now I am stuck. I am thinking of putting maybe 8inch handles instead of current 5inch but not sure if that would help to improve the look. I think it's going to be used as an eat-in kitchen table for the large overhang.

It very much depends on the style and material of your kitchen. Do you have shaker cabinets (which are more of a traditional look)? Then maybe get wooden kitchen island legs painted in the same colour as the cabinets and with decorative details. Or maybe you have a modern/contemporary kitchen with SS appliances; then you may want round SS legs for a unified look.

Do you mean that the entire countertop is 39"? If the entire countertop is 39" which includes it sitting on some cabinets, then you could probably get away with using steel brackets that can be installed flush with the top of the cabinets, that way you do not see them. Or you could use wooden corbels, which you can get from your cabinet provider. If your overhang is 39" then I would recommend legs, which was mentioned earlier, or a steel frame.
