Comments (12)A soft, warm grey shade would look lovely, and can be as dark or light as you want. A warmer shade will work with the brown stained wood floor, and the grey will complement the black granite. You could have an undertone of green, blue or tan if you didn't want a pure grey. And it would look nice with any silver metal hardware, either polished or satin/brushed, so you could choose pewter, chrome or nickel. Comments (1)I am an amateur lover of home decorating. I too have a very awkward long narrow living room that is 350cm by 620cm. Additionally it has diagonal traffic flow from the front entry to the rest of the flat. The owners have built a cabinet at one end for the TV, etc. I think I would make a cosy seating area at one end of your long living room. Place a grey or brown sofa at one end but not against the wall. I like the idea of a narrow console table behind the sofa with a table lamp, a plant or a large statue. This brings the end wall closer in. A peachy or raspberry carpet in front of the sofa will pick up the wall colour and anchor this seating area. (grey and some browns also coordinate with raspberry/peach). A couple of raspberry sofa cushions can help include the wall colour into your overall scheme. Single chairs opposite the sofa allows visual and actual flow down the narrow room and completes this seating area. At the other end of the long narrow living room I would place a reading chair, a floor lamp and a small round coffee table. If there is room you could have a tall bookshelf with you favourite books. What do you have on the long side walls? I have windows and doorways on both long sides. I decided to use pull up shades on the windows instead of curtains which I thought would make my narrow living room look more narrow. Let's start from bottom line, what is the budget that you can spare now for the makeover. A lot of remodelling would depend upon the budget .BTW, I really appreciate your honesty about the affordability ! Coming back to the topic, I believe your TV unit is placed in a good position but other units will require movement. Please do confirm the size. 8 years agoWell, I agree that dark can make the room look smaller, but I have dark cabinets and I have never noticed lint on them. Then again, the only cabinets close to the dryer are wall cabinets. Or perhaps I am a clean freak. ;-)
When asked, I generally recommend a shade of white because it tends to make a laundry room feel brighter and more spacious. Since you have already finished your cabinets, you might consider adding tiles backsplash or wallpaper instead of changing the cabinet paint again. There are a lot of ways to pull the cabinets into an overall design that would look nice.
If you are interested in going for darker cabinets without needing to completely redo them again, you could always glaze them. You would end up with something like this.

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoSea salt is such a lovely color and would really suit white. You can also add pops of color and don't forget to add wicker baskets. White cabinetry is used in mud rooms and kitchens and not sure how much more dirt would be generated in a laundry room, so I wouldn't make that a major factor in your decision. What you could also do, is paint the walls white and the cabinets blue which has a bit more interest.

8 years agoThanks to everyone. I do not have cabinets at this point. We are going to do full cabinets across from the washer and dryer with pull out laundry baskets and a tower to house 4 wicker type baskets for folded clean laundry. Possibly some above the appliances but they are rather tall but not sure where to put my soaps. Then there will be one next to them with a sink.

8 years agoThese are my final 2 choices. White cabinets were to hard to match the trim so we are going with these 2. Love both of them but going more towards the dark mainly due to a significant price difference. These are medallion cabinets. Dark is a smoke stain and the light is a glaze. Any suggestions? Or any ideas of how or where to get cabinets cheaper? Way over budget and I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger with it being a laundry room.
