8 years agoYou seem to like symmetry. Can you add another floor lamp on the wall space to the left of the left window? You have some barstools there and I'd hate to see you clutter the room with more furniture if you don't need it. If you want additional seating, consider ottomans under the triple windows. If it's not too late, consider a glass coffee table rather than the wood one. While it still looks light and airy, it still has that big block of wood. As for your media shelves, less is more. Consider some books laying flat and a long basket or 2 or 3 to mask the wires.
Also, consider changing the glass on your picture to museum glass, which is non-reflective. I wouldn't add curtains, but you are in need of some color. Depending on the picture you have, select a color that's in it and add a throw pillow or two, even a throw. Comments (18)I agree with divadeva. More lights. If you can add pot lights do it. If they're already there add task lighting and up the wattage on the bulbs on the pot lights (replace with LED and you can make them brighter because the wattage on LED is lower for brighter light). If you have all of that add decorative lighting. If ventilation is an issue find a way to move the air around or add air filtration. Maybe the HVAC is deficient. Maybe you can add a HEPA filter instead of the standard one that comes with the unit. Comments (8)I assume that the pieces you have displayed in this corner are items that mean a lot to you. I remember being a newlywed and had to do solely with what I had on hand to make our house feel like our very own home. I added/replaced pieces a little at a time and finally completed the look I was envisioning. Below is my suggestion on how to get the items a bit more balanced to the eye. But in the end, I believe that the decors in your home all depends on how they make you feel in your heart when you look at them. The first one made use of some books and made sure the wall outlet was hidden within the wall shelf - assuming there is no constant need to use them. The second is an example where if you can buy only one piece to add, I suggest a piece to completely cover the outlet and take advantage of the conversational bubble style of the wall shelf. Also, I think a nice console set up as a bar, in the empty space next to the sofa, (with bourbon and glasses) would be nice and manly. Sort of like this, but something with an industrial look.

Fabric Roman shades done as a stationery valance would soften the blinds a bit. Might consider them?
