You have very high walls so I would do a tall wainscot on the walls to create some warmth and decoration at the same time. Take everything off the walls and remove all the small little shelfs and decorations, leave only the big furniture. Then start over with the wall decor. Need some bold statements to create some balance and interest but not clutter. Add some larger shelves if you need shelves, something hefty and interesting. It's hard to see wall color and how it works with the upholstery. Do you need all that furniture in the space? I would thin it out. Remove one of the sofas and place the chairs across from the other one. Open up the space in front of the window. Add a sofa table behind a sofa along the wall and decorate it with a couple large vintage style lamps with some accent color (pull a color from the rug that you like) on each end and tablescape the middle of the table. Add a huge mirror above Bring that same accent color into the space with some bookshelf decor but not cluttery. I am not a fan of the drapes; something more neutral in a grommet panel style that can easily be opened. Hang them at the ceiling. They will look really nice because they create nice gentle folds if the fabric is a bit heavy for weight. That looks like natural wood so i wouldn't ever paint it, I would try to match the wood color and use a more substantial wood drapery rod next to it and remove the clock above it. Light jade pieces would be good and shiny too. Something inexpensive would be all green or white/cream Haeger (maybe spelled wrong) ceramic rectangular "planters" usually about 3 inches tall, 2 or three inches deep and 6 or so wide and other shapes also like small vases are easy to find. I think they are from the 40's or 50's so they would match the built-in style. You can pick them up at thrift stores for about five dollars and they have nice shapes. I agree with the other comments that a strong theme rather than random objects are key.

With your original pictures - I agree with larger rug. But I don't agree with comments suggesting the rooms are monochromatic. They are lively indeed. I think you are just missing some accessories! Art work on the empty walls - even just a single large dramatic piece is in order. In the bedroom on the white wall, in the living space behind the sofa, in the greenish bedroom behind the two beds. Those are instant areas where you can improve. But I think your spaces are lovely and well put together. Also I agree with the comment about table lamps - some of those would really add something, and your coffee table looks so empty - maybe just one gorgeous bowl, or stack some books. These rooms are 90% done in my opinions, just need a few finishing touches. Some of my rooms come out like this because the clients are not willing to pay for those last few finish items or feel they can do that part themselves...

I would take away those top arches and have builtins either side of fireplace, have the tv placed on a shelf on the built in, like in the pics, you don't have to have it above the fireplace, if room is small it will feel like it's coming at you lol.
