Hi Chetna, The following are certain options which you may use instead of actual wooden flooring - 1] Laminated wooden planks This is the most commonly used type of flooring these days. The tiles can be arranged on a flat surface that is either cemented or tiled. The flooring is shock proof, fire proof, water proof and comes in a wide array of colours and patterns. They are basically interlocking tiles with an mdf/hdf base and are reusable. But apart from the planks, one needs profiles and other accessories for laying them. The laying time is only a few hours. Laminated Wooden Planks 2] Tiles with wooden patterns These are available both as vitrified and ceramic tiles. They come in actual plank sizes (165mm x 900mm) and also in tile sizes (2'x4') etc. They are very easy to maintain but take more time to lay as compared to laminated planks. They require pigmented cement to fill the joints in order to give the seamless wooden look. Vitrified Tiles Ceramic Tiles 3] Vinyl wooden flooring They come in rolls or strips that can be just applied over the existing floor (cemented or tiled). They come in matte and gloss finishes. Hi Rahul, 1] Give spacers if : a] you are going for matte finished rustic tiles. b] you are using ceramic tiles. c] you have a large area to showcase the tiles so that even after using spacers the space visually retains its size. Tip: Spacers should always be given in proportion to the tile size. Since you have large sized tiles spacers of about 6-9mm would look good. 2] Avoid spacers if : a] you are going for Italian marble patterned tiles. b] you are going for glossy tiles. c] you have a small area for application of tiles as spacers segment it further and give an impression of a smaller space. Hello there, Please visit a tile studio of reputed brands like Kajaria/Somany/RAK rather than an ordinary tile dealer. You would get a better idea on materials, dimensions and colors. Since you have a large BUA, you could go for large format tiles for flooring of the sizes 1200 x 600 mm 800 x 800 mm Anything bigger than that would be a sheer loss in case of breakage and maintenance as well. Hi Shivam, the best size is either 300mm x 300mm or 600mm x 600mm. The reason is - smaller the tile size better the maintenance of slope to achieve drainage of water. Also, use anti skid tiles to avoid accidents.
