Need help with my living room
Comments (138)Leather sofas can really dominate the room and can give an overall cold feeling. I would add some earthy elements, like a wood coffee table with glass or metal. Go to Restoration Hardware's website and look at their sofa room scenes. And I'm sorry I think the art is too harsh for the room. That's all your eye goes to in the room. too overpowering. I would look for something softer or maybe a cool mirror and I would add color to the room with pillows and some colorful lamps. I also think woven blinds would look great. They add warmth and give a finished look. The color of your window treatments should contrast your wall color a bit, not match it or else it starts to look generic and blah.. You have warm walls, warm floors and the woven blinds, like Hunter Douglas brand would pull it all together for you....See MorePlanning for disability
Comments (228)Tsilanko, I would always recommend professional installation where needed. But what I am doing here is suggesting that WHEN you are planning to build or renovate, to consider how your plans will affect you in 20 or 30 years time. Split levels are very hep when you are young. A kitchen 3 steps down at 30 is rarely a problem, but might be a hazard at 60, or, as Marjie1059 suggested, if you break a leg. ... All my parents' homes were terrible for old people. They were forced to move to a bungalow in extreme old sge because the location and design of their home was more suitable for an active young couple with a large family than for an elderly couple with stroke disabilities. I would not want to move again, so my present home has features built in that make ageing in place simpler. Mostly small changes, like grab rails, and lever handles on doors and faucets. A major disability suddenly suffered requires major changes if permanent. I did look at this because it came up in the discussion, but if you look at the heading, Planning for Disability, it means just that. Plan ahead so you don't have to make expensive changes later on. But thank you for your advice, yes, major changes are not in the DIY domain....See MoreLiving room decor ideas
Comments (10)Hello Monika, I must say that concrete wall is fantastic! I see a large planter with a large leaved plant there.. I like Jonathan's idea, off white or shades of cream for the remaining walls and ceiling or even a subtle stone colour.. Then we need to talk textures! I think the sofa could work if you move it out a bit from the wall and layer it up with throws and add a couple of lovely cushions.. Warm woods would be nice too to balance the room.. Have you considered adding concrete to other areas of the home? There are some fantastic concrete chairs available both as a chair and bar stool.. Could be fabulous to compliment this room.. Cox and Cox did some pendant lights that were concrete with a warm edge detail.. You could create your own arrangement with a 5 wire ceiling rose and hooks.. A glass topped coffee table could be nice too.. Have a look at eBay or vintage shops.. Oh and one more thing... You can if you like the concrete wall find wallpaper for another room say that resembles what you have in the living room or even marble! It's fabulous and a feature you want to make the most out of! :))...See Moreis COB led lights good for residential use?
Comments (8)Hello, Firstly I would like to talk to you about COB lights. I personally think it is way better than panel lights because the more recessed the light source is; The more it is hidden to the Naked eye. The same also features some architectural lighting benefits too Were you could choose the beam angle so that a specific Area Is highlighted. Secondly your query about yellow, light yellow and white light Which are basically known as warm neutral and cool light. The truth is warm is the most preferred colour around the globe as it instantly makes A place feel Cosy and also brings out the richness in colours and also gives out a more relaxed feel to the eye. But basically we have been mostly drawn to white tube lights in the past and our human nature have adjusted to it and prefers the same in simulated environment. There is also some basic science to this matter. As in western countries people live in Cooler climates. When they get back home at evening or at night the warm tone of light gives them a sense of warmth-ness, Similarly as our country is very close to the equator and has this summer tropical climate when we get back to our homes the Cooler tune of light gives us a sense of coolness. Please do not worry but it is said that LED lights which are closer to the blue tone is considered a bit on the harmful side so I would suggest you to go for neutral or warm light or a mix of both. P.S. I have personally used COB recessed lights for a whole residential project complemented with other layering of light such as hidden cover light and different lamp light sources....See Moresizzlinghot
