I think this piece is quite lovely. It appears that your couch and chairs have dark wood so I would be tempted to stain or paint the buffet to match these items. Changing the large modern handles to smaller antique ones might help to make it less bulky looking and tie in with the other items in your room.. I like the idea of putting a mirror in the upper door, however much as I like the criss cross effect in the sample pictures, adding more detail may conflict with the curves in your sofa and chairs. You could look for a decorative detail that has more subtle style. As for placement, it might go on the short wall where you have a bench or even on the wall where you have your table with two chairs, one on each side to balance the look.

As others have said, it depends on the space. As a child I loved velvet flocked because it was so "touchable" LOL! In my extended family we tend to use the velvet flocked in dining rooms, the foil in bathrooms, and a high quality wallpaper in other rooms. The design is totally reliant upon the space it is being used in. In our Victorian farmhouse most of the rooms have the big roses or hydrangeas appropriate to the period. Hi Emran, What a great size room you have. You need to create two sitting areas within the space, and pull them into the room (get them off the wall), also I can see from the fantastic chandelier that you have, that the dining table must stay where it is. I would recommend you go with 3 large area rugs, at least 10x12 looking at the size of your room.
