need help with wall color

I have a wall in my dining area, which is seen right from the entrance. I want to put a nice bright color on it. My kitchen which is adjacent to it has red color tiles in the back-splash. Will shades of red look good on this wall or should I put contrasting bright colors like yellow?

Personally I would use the same red on the accent wall as the kitchen backsplash for some design continuity.

Thanks Dytecture! I had thought red would be too much in the eye, with already red tiles in the kitchen hence had thought of using a sporty yellow...the one that you see in the picture... Yellow wont match according to you? I liked the red in the picture you've sent.

I think the yellow and grey might bring out the gold-ish-ness of the couch.. I'd try to go with more blue colors.. Maybe some navy pillows and a rug with the blue in it as well. The curtains, that ying-yang rug, and the lilac rug just gotta go.. They're dwarfing all the sophistication this room will be able to have with that tile floor and those big beautiful windows. I love the dining room chairs!

Do you have an inspiration picture, piece of art, rug or fabric that is determining the color for each bedroom or are you just grabbing these colors out of a hat? White goes with all of them.

I agree with Dytecture about using (and matching) the red for the accent wall. And I would strongly discourage using yellow--mostly because bright yellow and bright red in the same visual field remind too many people (including me) of the ubiquitous McDonald's colors.

Red or do something more neutral but adding rich dynamic feel - like taupe.

Thank you Feeny and Mona. One thing I forgot to mention was that my kitchen furniture is gonna be glossy white, in case that might help you in suggesting the right color.

Match the tiles but put the paint on the wall farthest from the tiles.
